The Florida Bar said Friday it is not investigating former Justice Department attorney Lindsey Halligan, walking back an earlier statement saying a probe was underway.

In early February, a Florida Bar official responded to a request for a probe into the Trump loyalist over her time in the administration by writing, "We already have an investigation pending."

A day after NBC News and other outlets reported on the letter Thursday, the Florida Bar said that while there is a "monitoring file," there is no investigation into Halligan.

"In response to an inquiry from a complainant, The Florida Bar wrote a letter to the complainant erroneously stating that there is a pending Bar investigation of member Lindsey Halligan," a Florida Bar spokeswoman said in a statement Friday. "There is no such pending Bar investigation of Lindsay Halligan."

The bar said it received a complaint against Halligan and then followed what it called standard practice by "monitoring the ongoing legal proceedings underlying the complaint."

The complaint to the Florida Bar came from the Campaign for Accountability, a nonprofit watchdog group. The group said that by falsely claiming to be a U.S. attorney, Halligan committed a variety of ethical violations.

Halligan, who had no prosecutorial experience before leading unsuccessful cases against former FBI Director James Comey and New York Attorney General Letitia James, left her role as interim U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia in January after a judge said she was "masquerading" as the district's top federal prosecutor.

The Campaign for Accountability filed complaints with both the Florida and the Virginia bars in November, and it followed up with the Florida Bar last month.

Attorney General Pam Bondi, who previously served as Florida's attorney general, criticized the earlier news reports of an investigation.

"The Florida Bar 'investigation' of Lindsey Halligan is totally fake news," she said Friday in a post on X. "Lindsey not only did nothing wrong — she did a great job!"

Asked for comment on the Florida Bar's reversal, Halligan responded to NBC News Friday by writing, "Where's my apology?"

She also sent a screenshot of a Trump post on Truth Social where he reposted Bondi's defense of Halligan.

The deadly Jan. 25 crash of a private jet in Bangor, Maine, happened after the luxury craft failed to depart within recommended time frames after deicing for the given weather conditions, according to a preliminary report issued by the National Transportation Safety Board.

All six people on board died in the fiery crash, which occurred as the Bombardier CL-650 took off from the Bangor International Airport's single runway enroute to France during a fierce winter storm.

FAA recommendations for the given conditions called for departure no more than 9 minutes after deicing, but the jet did not leave for nearly 17 minutes, the report said.

The jet, operated by a Houston law firm, had departed Texas with a stop in Bangor, about 130 miles northeast of Portland, for fuel and deicing services, authorities said.

According to AccuWeather, visibility at the time of the crash was about three-fourths of a mile with a low ceiling of 1,100 feet.

According to the NTSB, light snow had been reported but should have been categorized as moderate given the nighttime visibility and temperatures of about 3 degrees Fahrenheit. Those conditions specified a maximum holdover period of nine minutes from the start of the anti-ice application.

However, the report said the plane did not depart until nearly 16 minutes after the deicing process had begun at nearly 7:28 p.m. and 13 minutes after application of anti-ice fluid concluded.

The report said the plane sat on the deice pad for nearly five minutes before it left. By then, eight minutes had passed since the deicing application had begun, it said.

A review of the plane's cockpit voice recorder indicated the flight crew discussed holdover times while taxiing to the runway, with the pilot saying it was "standard" to have 14 to 18 minutes but that if the wait was more than 30 minutes, the plane would return to the ramp to deice again. Those time frames would have been consistent with the FAA's recommendations for light snow.

The plane took off at 7:44 p.m. and ultimately came to rest upside-down before catching on fire. Federal investigators were initially unable to reach the site with the region under heavy snow and ice from a winter storm sweeping the region.

A preliminary review of flight data recorder data revealed no evidence of a flight control malfunction or failure, the NTSB said.

A powerful storm system moving over southern Michigan on the afternoon of March 6 spawned at least one confirmed tornado, killing four people and injuring more than a dozen others.

The severe thunderstorm moved through Cass, St. Joseph and Branch counties, leaving damages across a 50-mile swath between Edwardsburg, Three Rivers and Union City, according to reports from the National Weather Service office in Northern Indiana.

At least one "large and extremely dangerous" tornado was confirmed by storm chasers, trained spotters, broadcast media and public videos from Three Rivers in St. Joseph County, Michigan, the weather service said.

Three of the deaths and 12 injuries were reported by the Branch County Sheriff's Office. Of the 12 injured, three were taken to local hospitals after the storm moved through the Union Lake area of the county.

"Our thoughts are with those who have lost family, friends, and property during this incident," the sheriff's office stated.

A fatality and several injuries were confirmed by Cass County Sheriff Clint Roach. Multiple large structures, including homes and pole barns, sustained either major damage or total destruction, the county reported.

In St. Joseph County, the Sheriff's Office advised people to avoid traveling to or through locations in the city of Three Rivers, areas to the east and northeast of the community and in Fabius Township. The sheriff's office also advised people to avoid damaged structures and structures that had been marked by emergency personnel.

The weather service office in Northern Indiana said it intends to send a meteorology team out on the morning of March 7 to conduct a storm survey to confirm damages left by the storm and determine whether there was more than one tornado and how intense the winds were.

"We are being flooded with reports of damage so we do not have an exact number to report," said Maddi Johnson, a meteorologist in the weather service office. "We do know that there were several homes damaged on the north side of Union Lake" in Union City, Michigan, Johnson said.

Additional severe weather is possible overnight into March 7 and could influence how early the meteorologists are able to begin the survey, the weather service said. If warnings are issued, residents should seek shelter immediately and continue monitoring trusted weather and news sources for information.

The Three Rivers tornado struck around 3:50 p.m. Storm chasers and emergency management staff in St. Joseph County reported the tornado touched down multiple times before causing damage on the southwest side of Three Rivers just before 4 p.m. local time.

Local officials also reported to the weather service that a person had been trapped in debris and needed extrication between Niles and Edwardsburg in Cass County. A tornado warning had been issued for portions of Cass and St. Joseph counties around 3:14 p.m. local time, and then continued at 3:52 p.m.

The storm that spawned the tornado that struck Three Rivers was still showing organization and potential strengthening as it continued toward the northeast, the weather service reported.

Social media videos posted from in St. Joseph and Cass counties showed a section of roof being lifted off a Menards store in Three Rivers and debris being hurled around in the air.

The weather service also reported "a large debris ball" on radar over Union City, Michigan. Damage reports were received along a roughly 60 mile swath between Niles and Union City, but it wasn't immediately clear whether it was caused by one or multiple tornadoes.

At 5 p.m., the St. Joseph County Sheriff's Office shared a Facebook post asking "everyone to please stay away from the north end" of the county until further notice. "Emergency personnel are currently responding to an active situation in that area, and it is critical that our firefighters, law enforcement officers, EMS, and other emergency workers have clear access," the office stated.

As of 10 p.m. on March 6, a few thousand customers were without electricity in St. Joseph and Cass counties.

Other tornadoes reported

The Three Rivers tornado is among at least a half dozen reported across the United States on March 5 and 6.

In Oklahoma, a woman and her daughter died when their van was caught by a tornado March 5. Weather service meteorologists were still surveying the damage from those storms on the afternoon of March 6.

Landing a job that lasts over a decade is a blessing for any working actor. That being said, when *Modern Family** *was coming to a close after 11 seasons, Jesse Tyler Ferguson was ready for a change.

"*Modern Family* ended and then we had a pandemic, you know. I was so excited for this next chapter of my life, and then it was like, everyone go inside," Ferguson noted while speaking with *Reno 911 *and *St. Denis Medical *star Wendi McLendon-Covey on Tuesday's episode of his *Dinner's On Me *podcast.

That frustration of that false start was nothing compared to the bind that lay in store.

"During that time, they were brewing this idea of maybe doing a *Modern Family* spinoff with [Eric Stonestreet] and I, which I was interested in, but I was also supposed to do this play in New York."

Sitcom spinoffs like *Frasier *and *Laverne and Shirley* have yielded even greater success for the stars shifted from supporting to series star, but Ferguson wasn't so sure he wanted it — or anything to happen.

"It sort of felt like, as the reality of, maybe the spinoff was actually going to happen, I literally felt like, *Oh my god, I want to date other people*," he explained.

Ferguson said that after 11 seasons in the rigidly structured sitcom world, he had to "feel what it's like to not do that." And "anyway, it ended up not working out."

*Modern Family *came to a close only six years ago, but talk of a reboot, prequel, or spinoff series has haunted the series perhaps more than any other that aired its finale in the COVID era.

Stonestreet, who played Ferguson's husband across *Modern Family*'s series run, has discussed the undeveloped spinoff centered around their Cameron Tucker (Stonestreet) and Mitchell Pritchett (Ferguson) characters.

"They had their chance. [Series co-creator] Chris Lloyd and a couple of the writers wrote a really great script that spun Jesse and I off in our life in Missouri, and they said, 'No.' They just said, 'We don't want to do it.'"

Stonestreet said that still, 17 years after the *Modern Family *premiere, "I love my character. I love the show. I love Jesse," but believes the powers that be "thought of us as the old guys, or something like that, that didn't seem worthy of keeping those characters going. It felt a little hurtful. But people make business decisions."

FX's *Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette** *dramatizes one of the most famous romances of the 20th century, and while audiences are swooning, the Kennedy family isn't impressed.

Jack Schlossberg, JFK Jr.'s nephew, has been openly critical of the Ryan Murphy-produced series, calling it a "grotesque display of someone else's life." He also urged fans to watch the show "with one letter in mind, and that's a capital F for fiction."

While certain events in the series reflect real life, the show takes plenty of creative liberties. That said, here's a look at five details that *Love Story *gets wrong about JFK Jr. and Carolyn Bessette's relationship.

How JFK Jr. and Carolyn met is still debated

In the *Love Story *premiere, Carolyn Bessette (Sarah Pidgeon) attends a fundraiser in 1992, where her boss, Calvin Klein (Alessandro Nivola), introduces her to JFK Jr. (Paul Anthony Kelly). The two hit it off immediately, but the show's version of their first meeting isn't the full picture.

Executive producer Brad Simpson recently told *USA Today* that the *Love Story *team found "competing narratives" about how they met, and ultimately went with the "most common" version: the fundraiser.

However, according to Elizabeth Beller's book *Once Upon a Time: The Captivating Life of Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy* (which inspired *Love Story*), JFK Jr. and Bessette first crossed paths at a Calvin Klein fitting. Beller wrote that Klein, his wife Kelly, and assistant MJ Bettenhausen had Bessette help JFK Jr. pick out suits, and he "came out of the meeting smitten, with a few men's suits and Carolyn's phone number."

The series squeezes this into the storyline, but it rearranges the timeline. By the time viewers see the fitting, the pair already know each other, and JFK Jr. even shows up to the office specifically to work with Bessette. It also tweaks the Kleins role, making it seem like they had no idea JFK Jr. was there.**

JFK Jr. and Daryl Hannah dated longer than the show depicts

*Love Story *makes it look like JFK Jr.'s romance with Bessette sparks almost instantly after their fundraiser meet-cute, but he was still dating actress Daryl Hannah (Dree Hemingway) at the time.

She drifts in and out of his life throughout the early episodes, and during one of their many break ups, JFK Jr. goes on a date with Bessette. But after seeing a photo of him and Hannah together, she cuts him off. Only after his final breakup with Hannah and his mother's death does JFK Jr. fully commit to being with Bessette.

How did JFK Jr. die? Revisiting the 'Love Story' subject's tragic plane crash

*Love Story *speeds things up, but in real life, it played out much more slowly. In reality, JFK Jr. and Hannah had a long on-and-off relationship that overlapped with the time he met Bessette in 1992. By the time he officially ended things with Hannah in 1994, JFK Jr. had already been close with Bessette for years, meaning their connection didn't come out of nowhere.

Simpson admitted to *USA Today* that *Love Story *condensed JFK Jr. and Hannah's timeline. He noted that their real-life romance went on for years, but the show "needed to jump ahead" instead of showing every breakup and makeup.

The couple's rift over the anonymous letter reportedly lasted much longer

In episode 4, JFK Jr. finds an anonymous letter in his gym bag. The letter accuses Bessette of being a party girl who was "fixated" on him and begged Klein to set them up. They break up after he confronts her, and JFK Jr. soon regrets not believing Bessette. After many failed attempts at getting in contact with Bessette, JFK Jr. shows up at her apartment, where they reconcile.

In real life, JFK Jr. reportedly received a similar letter, but, per Beller, it came much earlier in 1992. Beller wrote that the letter claimed Bessette "was a user, a partier, that she was out for fame and fortune." While on a date, JFK Jr. allegedly "tossed the piece of paper at her, stood, and walked out the door." Bessette read it herself, dismissed it as nonsense, and was irritated that JFK Jr. hadn't wanted to talk about it with her.

Like on the show, JFK Jr. tried to make amends quickly, but Bessette reportedly ignored him for about a year. During that time, he continued dating Hannah, and Bessette moved on with model Michael Bergin.

JFK Jr. and Bessette officially started dating in 1994, and their relationship went public a year later.

JFK Jr. did not propose to Carolyn with his mother's ring

On the show, JFK Jr. proposes to Bessette using his late mother Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis' ring, but that's not what happened in real life.

According to Carole Radziwill's book *What Remains*, JFK Jr. didn't pop the question with one of Jackie's rings, but he took inspiration from her "swimming ring" that the former first lady would wear while in the water. Rather, he had a custom band made for Bessette, decorated with "diamonds and sapphires" in a similar style to the swimming ring's emeralds and sapphires.

The couple wasn't fighting about commitment issues in the park

Episode 5 of *Love Story *dramatizes JFK Jr. and Bessette's infamous park fight. On the show, they scream at each other over commitment issues and his proposal, with yelling, tears, and even a moment when he takes her engagement ring off her finger (she agrees to wear it but hasn't formally accepted), prompting Bessette to jump on him.

In real life, JFK Jr. and Bessette did have a heated moment in a park, but it wasn't about a proposal. According to RoseMarie Terenzio and Liz McNeil's *JFK Jr.: An Intimate Oral Biography*, the argument was about JFK Jr. letting people push him around and his friends constantly taking advantage of him.

The conflict reportedly stemmed from a friend's wedding, where JFK Jr. and Bessette were seated next to a reporter covering the event. JFK Jr. felt "uncomfortable" with the arrangement, and Bessette called it a "bulls--- thing to do to your friend."

Who is the best *Survivor* winner ever? Ask 10 *Survivor* fans and you may get 10 different answers. Which is part of the fun of the question.

Hardcore *Survivor* fans love to discuss and debate the intricacies of the game and their favorite seasons and winners in the same way that sports fans enjoy chattering nonstop about their teams.

But what do most fans think when posed with the question of whose the greatest *Survivor* winner ever? Let's find out!

EW has put together a bracket with all 49 season *Survivor* winners, with a match-up happening every day until the best of the best is crowned at the *Survivor 50* finale. And then the winner of *Survivor 50* can take on the king or queen of the bracket to see who comes out on top there.

Because common math tells us that 49 does not equal 64, some winners have received first round byes from **'s panel of *Survivor* experts and already advanced to the second round. Also, the two-time winners Sandra Diaz-Twine and Tony Vlachos are guaranteed on making it to the second round since *Heroes vs. Villains* Sandra defeated *Pearl Islands* Sandra in round one, and *Cagayan* Tony will take on *Winners at War* Tony. The rest is all up to you!

Yesterday's match matchup featured *Survivor: Vanuatu *winner Chris Daugherty (who found a way to break up the women's alliance en route to victory) against unanimous *Millennials vs, Gen X *champ Adam Klein. In the end, you gave Chris the victory, squeaking by with just 52 percent of the vote, which means he has earned the right to take on *Survivor 45 *title holder (and current *Survivor 50* combatant) Dee Valladares in round two.

Now it's time for today's battle, and it is a juicy one. The self-proclaimed Iceman, *Survivor: Thailand *champ Brian Heidik, takes on *Survivor 46 *title-holder and social dynamo Kenzie Petty. Who will advance to go up against Boston Rob Mariano in round two? That is entirely up to you!

Controversial conservative personality Elisabeth Hasselbeck would rather debate Hot Topics every day with the ladies of *The View* than skin another pig in the Australian outback on *Survivor*, thank you very much!

The *Survivor* and *View* alum, who rejoined the latter program earlier this week as a five-day guest cohost, has revealed why she'll never return to the reality TV competition that made her famous, 25 years after she placed fourth on *Survivor* season 2 in 2001.

In a new interview with *The View*'s companion podcast, *Behind the Table *(below), Hasselbeck fielded a question from producer Brian Teta about whether she's been asked to return to *Survivor*.

"They have," Hasselbeck confirmed, before explaining that she'll never go back to the show. "Solid no. *Solid* no, every single time."

Teta pressed her on if they asked her to be part of the current *Survivor 50 *season, and the 48-year-old Republican paused before she answered: "I think, maybe, there was an indirect ask. I think I'd trained them to know [I'd say no]."

She then explained her reasoning, telling Teta, "I don't think I could leave the kids. I barely want to miss a [sports] game today that I know is going on."

Teta inquired if she'd want to "skin a pig again" on the reality show, and Hasselbeck laughed as she doubled down: "No, I can not!"

Hasselbeck, who was a permanent *View* cohost from 2003-13, also remembered flying to Australia to film *Survivor* season 2 — and told Teta that her flight marked a key moment for her ahead of competing on the show.

"I literally went in with two skills. I had nothing. I didn't camp, I didn't know anything," she said of her life as a shoe designer before *Survivor*. On the aircraft, she "took out my shoelaces and practiced tying knots. I had a book! I learned how to fish from a book and tie knots, which was our structural support [at camp]."**

While she won't again do battle with nature's elements on *Survivor*, Hasselbeck has shaken the Hot Topics table this week on *The View*: she sparred with Sunny Hostin over voting for Donald Trump, said "all lives matter," and compared protective COVID pandemic masks to ICE agents wearing masks to shield their identities during immigration raids.

Hasselbeck has also been critical of *The View* in recent years, particularly in January 2025, when she slammed both Joy Behar and the show as "sinking" entities after Behar criticized Carrie Underwood for performing at Trump's second inauguration.
