MGK is baring it all.
In a June 8 interview with Billboard Canada, the "Papercuts" singer, formerly known as Machine Gun Kelly, opened up about the scary side effects of rushing his "dark mode" tattoo journey in 2023.
Instead of heeding the advice of celebrity tattoo artist ROXX, the 36-year-old musician opted to get under the needle right away, completing the process in two months instead of the recommended two-year timeframe.
Rather than building in breaks for healing, the father of two created his own routine, waking up each morning to make the 15-minute drive to ROXX's L.A. studio, where the vast majority of his arms, chest and stomach were covered in ink.

That decision came with complications, including "yellow" skin and temporary paralysis.
"After the first week, we hit my lymph nodes around my armpits and shoulders, and I got really sick," MGK told the outlet. "My skin was turning yellow. I wasn't able to sleep. I stopped being able to move certain parts of my upper body."
According to Harvard Medical School, a "body wide immune reaction" can be triggered after immune cells in the skin react to chemicals in the tattoo ink and travel to nearby lymph nodes.

Infections, including bacterial skin infections or viral hepatitis; allergic reactions; scarring and rarely skin cancer are some common health risks associated with tattoos.
MGK was 'extremely inspired' after blackout tattoo experience
MGK told Billboard Canada he emerged from the experience, which he saw as both a physical and metaphorical obstacle, a new man. He was feeling less chaotic, more clear-headed and the best part: his pen [was] moving at 100 miles per hour, according to Billboard Canada.
"I came out the other side extremely inspired," MGK said. "Not just because of what I had done, but because of what I had to overcome."
MGK revealed that there were both personal and professional reasons behind the decision to undergo such a drastic and intense physical transformation, saying that he was looking for a "change" that went beyond a sound wave.
After looking in a mirror and taking inventory of the ink on his person that reminded him of phases in his life that he didn't remember − or didn't want to recall − he was left with a question and a decision to make: "Who the [expletive] am I?"
"I saw death and drugs in all these patterns that I was literally writing on my body," MGK said. "There were happy tattoos, sad tattoos, holy tattoos, hellish tattoos. It was like my bipolarity was screaming off my skin."
