Sweet Magnolias is back for season 5!
The series, based on the romance novels by Sherryl Woods, has returned for season 5, which premiered on Netflix on June 11.
And while fans watch the love lives of their favorite characters like Maddie Townsend, played by JoAnna Garcia Swisher and Helen Decatur, played by Heather Headley, pan out on-screen, in real life, these actors have love stories of their own.

JoAnna Garcia Swisher who plays single-mom of three Maddie Townsend, also has two children in her real life whom she shares with husband Nick Swisher.
JoAnna and the former MLB player wed on Dec. 11, 2010 — less than a year after getting engaged. They welcomed their first child, Emerson Jay Swisher, in May 2013 before growing to a family of four in 2016 with the arrival of Sailor Stevie Swisher.

Heather Headley, who plays Helen, one of Maddie's two best friends, is also married to a former professional athlete.
The Grammy and Tony winner — who originated the role of Nala in The Lion King on Broadway — and former New York Jets player Brian Musso have been married for more than 20 years, per Country Living, and are now parents of three.

The former Drop Dead Diva star now appears as Maddie and Helen's third best friend Dana Sue. It appears Elliott prefers to keep her love life private as there are no indications she is with anyone.

Dana Sue's daughter is played by Anneliese Judge, who per her Instagram account, seems to be in a relationship with Cameron Zahand.
"sometime between now and the night we met, you broke down my walls and rebuilt them with windows," Judge wrote in part for an emotional birthday post to Zahand. "letting the sun shine in. your love is a balm to the aches of the world."

Jamie Lynn Spears, who plays Noreen Fitzgibbons on the Netflix series, married Jamie Watson in March 2014. At the time, Spears was already mom to daughter Maddie, whom she shares with her ex Casey Aldridge, and she later welcomed daughter Ivey with Watson.

Carson Rowland, who plays Maddie's eldest son Tyler, married his wife Maris in October 2021, and in November 2023 welcomed their first child together, a daughter named Eden Stone Rowland. In October 2025, their second child was born — a baby boy named Asa.

Justin Breuning, who plays Tyler's baseball coach and a love interest of Maddie's, is married to fellow actress and former All My Children costar Alex Havins — they even got engaged on the set.
The pair have been married for over 20 years and now share four children.

Dion Johnstone, who plays Helen's boyfriend Erik, is married to his "one and only," fellow actress and creative coach Lisa Berry.
For her birthday in November 2024, Johnstone wrote on Instagram, "It's an honor to stand by your side and celebrate you—especially today, on your special day."
The two welcomed a son in July 2020.
