The Simpsons predicted that a virus-stricken cruise ship would set sail.
On May 11, American passengers aboard the M/V Hondius, the cruise ship at the center of a hantavirus outbreak, returned to the United States. However, The Simpsons predicted this type of catastrophe would happen back in 2012. The Fox animated series previously predicted the Trump presidency during a Season 11 episode in 2000, and the use of smartwatches and video calling in another Season 6 installment in 1995.
The writers of the cartoon show foretold the trajectory of current events in the nineteenth episode from Season 23. This comes as the program predicted a fashion trend, as White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, 28, wore an outfit strikingly similar to the one Marge Simpson wore.

During the episode, Marge and Homer Simpson are on a cruise ship with their three children, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie. Homer is drunk enough at this point to wear a wig and a Hula Girl costume. His wife is also wearing a sailor's outfit. Suddenly, Homer's make-out session with Marge is interrupted by loud alarms and an incoming video message on a giant TV screen.
On the static-filled screen, General William Sullivan has an important emergency message to tell the passengers. He tells them, "The deadly Pandora virus is spreading rapidly. All ships must remain at sea until further..." before the message crackles.

Sullivan raises his fist at the camera and adds, "Humanity must endure."
Right when one of the passengers screams, "Virus!" that's when all chaos erupts. Homer and Marge hold onto each other frantically as the passengers scatter.
However, this is the part where the prophecy is wrong. This isn't a prank Bart created to prolong his vacation. At least three cruise ship passengers have died, and six people with confirmed or suspected cases of hantavirus are being quarantined, according to the World Health Organization.

The lab results of the American passengers who tested positive were inconclusive, WHO spokesperson Sarah Tyler said.
Passengers from the ship started flying home aboard military and government planes on May 10 after the MV Hondius anchored in the Canary Islands. Personnel in full-body protective gear and breathing masks escorted the travelers from the ship to shore in Tenerife, an Island in Spain.
Hantavirus patients will remain in a 42-day isolation period
Administrators at The National Quarantine Unit at Nebraska Medicine and the University of Nebraska Medical Center say they were ready to help the 18 American passengers stay safe for the next 42 days, which is a recommended monitoring period.
According to the World Health Organization, Hantavirus is a low risk to the general public. This is “not another COVID-19,” its chief stated.
