Batavia High School has hired Collin Ferguson as the head boys soccer coach, pending Batavia Board of Education approval at the May 18 meeting.
He succeeds Erik Poggi, who resigned to become the head varsity boys basketball coach at Batavia, which also must be approved at the board meeting. Poggi replaces Aaron Brose, who retired from basketball coaching after this past season.

Poggi was head soccer coach for the past seven years. He led the Bulldogs to a 10-3-2 record in 2025 and co-champions of the Southern Buckeye Athletic & Academic Conference-American Division.
In basketball, Batavia was 17-6 and second place in the league last season.

Poggi was junior varsity boys basketball coach at Batavia and steps up to lead the varsity. According to a press release from the school, he "brings a familiarity to the Bulldogs boys basketball program, giving continuity for our student-athletes. Coach Poggi understands all aspects of building a program, including partnering with the youth leagues and middle school programs to develop our future Bulldogs and to prepare our current Bulldogs for life after high school."

Ferguson has been the junior varsity girls soccer coach at Batavia for the past two years. He was also an assistant in the Bulldogs' high school track program. Ferguson also started the Batavia E-Sports program that had its Fortnite team qualify for the E-Sports State Tournament during its first year of existence in 2025-2026.
Ferguson played soccer in high school and at Wilmington College. He then moved into coaching, starting as an assistant girls coach at Lebanon High School for one season. He left Lebanon for his current roles at Batavia, which includes being a social studies teacher at Batavia High School.
At the club level, he has coached the 2011 girls at Kings Hammer North, and the 2017 boys at Alliance Soccer Club, spending two years with each group.
