Jimmy Kimmel may be an Oscars host veteran, but even he has his limits.

The late-night talk show host poked fun at the FBI's recent warning to California police about potential drone strikes from Iran during his monologue on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" Wednesday, March 11.

Federal authorities have warned California law enforcement agencies that the state could be a potential target of a drone attack tied to the escalating war between Iran, the United States and Israel — though officials stress there is no confirmed or imminent threat.

According to the alert, first reported by ABC News and confirmed by multiple law enforcement sources, authorities "recently acquired information" suggesting Iran had considered the idea of using unmanned aerial vehicles, or drones, launched from an unidentified vessel off the U.S. coast.

The memo said the hypothetical targets were "unspecified" and located in California, emphasizing that authorities had no information on timing, methods, perpetrators or specific locations.

Jimmy Kimmel arrives to The Hollywood Reporter's annual Women in Entertainment Gala at the Beverly Hills Hotel in Beverly Hills, California, on Dec. 3, 2025.

The news comes four days before the 98th Academy Awards are set to take place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood. The ceremony, hosted by comedian and former late-night host Conan O'Brien, has reportedly increased security at the venue as a precaution, according to People magazine and The Hollywood Reporter.

"The mood around the Oscars is a little bit tense this year," Kimmel, 58, said. "You know, they beefed up security after the FBI warned law enforcement here in California that Iran is aspiring to launch a drone strike on the West Coast, which is where we all are right now."

Kimmel, who's been critical of the Trump administration and the United States' growing conflict with Iran, has hosted the Academy Awards four times, including as recently as 2024.

"Isn't this how 'Iron Man 3' started the movie?" Kimmel jokingly added. "We can't handle a drone strike. We barely survived the writers' strike here."

Kimmel also took aim at President Donald Trump during his opening monologue Wednesday, joking that an attack by Iran would be a "win-win" for the president.

"He might even bomb us himself and blame it on you [Iran]," Kimmel quipped. "Just keep that in mind."

In less than two weeks of war, over a thousand people in Iran and hundreds throughout the region have been killed. Among them are seven American soldiers killed in retaliatory attacks. Additionally, the first six days of war in Iran cost U.S. taxpayers at least $11.3 billion, according to Pentagon estimates reviewed by lawmakers.

"We have credible threats of retaliatory drone attacks on California," said Kimmel, who called Trump a "disaster." "And this guy today is in Kentucky reminiscing about the way [former president Barack] Obama went down the stairs."
