When it comes to being an influencer, Jackie Aina believes authenticity is key.
On Thursday, Jan. 29, Aina chatted with PEOPLE at Clarins' Hollywood Galentine's Beauty Evening in Los Angeles, offering advice to those who want to follow in her footsteps and grow a following online.
"I think right now, more than ever, there's somewhat of a lack of originality," the 38-year-old YouTuber says. "And somebody might say the same thing about me. That's fine. I'm not for everybody. I don't want to be for everybody."

Aina opened up about her evolution as a creator and what sets her apart – explaining that early in her career, she tried to appeal to everyone, experimenting with different types of content until she found her audience.
"When you're first starting, I think you try to be for everybody, right? Because you're just like throwing darts and seeing what sticks, and you're finding your tribe, you're finding your audience in your community," she explains.
Over time, though, she realized that staying true to herself and only pursuing what felt authentic was the real differentiator. "If it ain't for me, then I'm going to have to just back out. And I feel like that is authenticity too, you know?" Aina says.

Reflecting on her early career, Aina remembers being pigeonholed as just a "makeup girl" – a moment in time that left her feeling limited. Nevertheless, after the pandemic, she ended up launching her second Instagram account, @lavishlyjackie, which now has over a million followers alone.
"That was when I started doing cleaning content, home decor, lifestyle," she explains. "I don't have to just be the lipstick girl. I don't have to just be the makeup girl."
To her surprise, the audience loved it. "The girls ate it up, so I just took it and ran with it," she admits.
Looking forward, Aina, who has 10 million followers across social platforms, is embracing new challenges as a founder. After nearly two decades as a content creator, she is learning the ins and outs of running her fragrance brand, FORVR Mood.
"I feel like every day I'm learning what that means because I've been basically in one box, a content creator, for like well over a decade – almost 20 years. This is my 17th year," she tells PEOPLE. "Now I'm learning how to be an entrepreneur, how to be a founder. So that's really tea."
