A Disney World cast member was injured after a massive prop dislodged from its track during the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular! show.

The moment was captured and uploaded to TikTok on Dec. 30. During the stunt show, which takes place at Disney's Hollywood Studios, a worker stepped in front of a 400-lb prop boulder that came rolling toward the audience.

The video shows the cast member pushing the rubber boulder to stop it from reaching the seated visitors. He is seen falling backward after stopping the ball and has a bloody gash on his head when he stands back up.

A Disney World representative confirmed that the cast member was injured after a prop moved off its track.

"We're focused on supporting our cast member, who is recovering," a spokesperson said in an email. "Safety is at the heart of what we do, and that element of the show will be modified as our safety team completes a review of what happened."

The Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular! features Indy, played by a stunt actor, cracking his whip, dodging spikes, and escaping that iconic boulder. Actors prepare for "dozens of contingencies" because every performance may play out differently, according to the Disney Parks blog.

"The performers form a backup plan for just about every possible scenario — and even learn how to improvise while staying in character," the blog continued.

While this likely wasn't a scenario anyone was expecting, spectators at the event could be heard expressing their gratitude toward the cast member in videos uploaded to social media.

"That guy literally saved our lives," the man behind the camera of one viral TikTok said.

Glinda may be known for her "toss toss," but she's not the only one with hair game in the *Wicked* world.

From the minute he arrived at Shiz University, Jonathan Bailey's Winkie prince had an envious coif. But when it came time for hair and makeup department head Frances Hannon to design the character's look for *Wicked: For Good*, she wanted to reflect Fiyero's evolution in the time that passed between films.

Taking inspiration from Fiyero's Gale Force regalia, Hannon tells ** she crafted a "large toupee" for Bailey with "blocks of gold through it to emulate the gold on the uniform."

When Fiyero becomes the Scarecrow (a four-hour process), "I kept the same shape of the hair but put all the textures of the field in — straw, hay, and dry grass," Hannon explains.

Prosthetics makeup designer Mark Coulier also sourced many types of burlap to create a flexible prosthetic that still allowed for subtle facial expressions. No simple sack for Bailey.

They also spent a significant time discussing the Scarecrow's nose.

"How should it end? How dark should the brown be on the little end? What's distracting? What's not?" Hannon says. "We looked at various shades. 'Should it just be burlap like the rest of it? Should it be brown? Should it be a lighter, darker shade?' So it was tiny nuances."

And ironically, Fiyero becoming nonhuman freed more of Bailey to surface: "We used Jonathan's natural dark-brown eyes to represent the earth of the field, whereas he had blue eyes as Fiyero. You could really see it was the Sexiest Man Alive coming through," Hannon says with a laugh.

But it wasn't just Fiyero's wardrobe, hair, and makeup that Hannon and her team took such care with. They also were meticulous in preparing his horse — or should we say horses, since four were used in the film, each for different purposes.

Because the horses were different colors ("One was white, one was brown, and one dark brown…"), Hannon says the team had to shave them down before applying a dye brought in from Japan, which they knew would be safe for the steeds.

"Then all the horses were painted with iridescent color," Hannon continues. "[SFX makeup artist] David Stoneman and I designed it, because it had never been done before — using horse oil as the base and the iridescent added to it, which also came from Japan."

Talk about a horse of a different color.

Ethan Slater has something to confess-a about his worst audition story.

The *Wicked: For Good* star recently revealed that, early on in his career, he auditioned for a role that he was "20 years too young" to play. Unfortunately, he didn't know that at the time.

"Early on, I had an audition where I left the room — I'm going to say no specifics — but I left the room and before the door closed, the director said, 'Why did you even bring him in?'" Slater said at an event at his alma mater, Vassar College, on Dec. 10, where he received the Young Alum Achievement Award.

While the comment hurt at the time, especially since he was so young and green in his career, Slater later found out that it was because he was too young to play the role.

"I know exactly who they cast, and I know everybody else they auditioned," he said. "But at the time, I left that room and I was like, 'I'm never going to work.' That is the worst thing. I was 23 years old."

Slater added that he now has a much different perspective on that audition faux pas.

"Having the experience of getting to be on the other side of it, which has only happened professionally for me more recently, has been pretty great," Slater said. "Now I'm like, 'Oh, first of all, inappropriate. That was on them, but also they probably didn't even mean anything by it.'"

Slater broke out with his Broadway debut in 2017 starring in *The SpongeBob Musical*, which earned him a Tony nomination. He went on to star in the two *Wicked* films as munchkin-turned-Tin Man, Boq, with sequel* Wicked: For Good* now available to stream online.

He has also appeared on multiple TV shows including *Elsbeth*, *Gen V,* and *The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel.*

She's died a handful of times before in movies — stabbed to death in *Caligula*, shot in the head in *Shadowboxer*, strangled in *Excalibur* — but Helen Mirren "didn't like" how her character was going to meet her end, director Kate Winslet tells **, in *Goodbye June*.

"She did say quite early on, 'I don't really want to be doing this at all, but I'm doing it for you and I'm doing it to support you,'" Winslet, making her feature directorial debut with the movie in which she also stars as one of Mirren's daughters, recalls of their early conversations. "I felt so grateful, but also, I didn't want to be putting her through something."

In the movie (streaming now on Netflix) written by Winslet's now 22-year-old son Joe Anders, Mirren's character, the titular June, discovers her cancer has returned. This time, it's terminal, and doctors say she doesn't have much time to live...in fact, she probably won't make it until Christmas, which is just two weeks away. So her four adult children, two of whom — Winslet's Julia and Andrea Riseborough's Molly — have a fraught relationship, her grandchildren, and her husband, Bernie (Timothy Spall), gather to be with June in her final days.

As June's health declines, though, Mirren — who Winslet says has a personal rule of not playing characters with dementia or cancer, but broke that rule for her director — preferred not to discuss the ins and outs of the illness.

"The way that she kind of managed herself, really, was that she didn't actually wanna talk about anything until we got there on the day. So she would get there, she would be prepared, but then she would just say to me, 'I don't like it today. I don't like, I don't like the gown and the wig and the thing. I don't want to get in the bed. Okay, right, I've got that off my chest. What shall I do?'" Winslet recalls. And I would say, 'Get in the bed. lie down, don't move your head. Okay, action.' And I just had to be very practical with her. What more do you offer someone like Helen Mirren who is going to instinctively respond to whatever's in front of her in brilliant ways?"

Kate Winslet shares how her son's school assignment became her directorial debut

Winslet went the extra step to create a set that was free of as many distractions as possible, "not by way of direction or things or words or clever tricks or s---, I didn't wanna do any of that 'cause she would've sniffed that out a mile off and become incredibly suspicious of it, as would I, and as I have done when directors have tried that with me," Winslet says. That meant making herself, the production equipment (cameras, lighting, microphones, etc.), and crew out of sight, however she could.

"Film sets are really busy places, lots of coming and going and people and chaos and crew, and everyone's trying to do their job. So I worked very closely with our crew in finding ways to make the space as empty as possible. So we didn't have any overhead booms; we had hidden microphones everywhere, and everyone was radio mic'd," she explains. "So the boom operator who would normally hover in the corner and just catch that one line, that person wasn't there at all. The children were completely free and wandering, no one hitting marks, just playing and just being."

Winslet says she and the crew also used various hand signals with the adult actors to know they were rolling, so they could start naturally interacting with the children for the scenes — especially important for one particular sequence that comes at the end of the film, when they stage the Nativity play for June in the hospital.

Goodbye June. Toni Collette as Helen (Center) in Goodbye June.

Helen (Toni Collette) and her nieces and nephews perform the Nativity play in 'Goodbye June'.

"I also was able to lock off our cameras at times and have nobody in the room at all. So the actors would show us how they wanted a scene to be, and we would set our camera, set our focus, and then I'd say to the actors, 'Okay, we'll leave you to it.' And they'd go, 'Where are you going?' And I would say, 'I'm gonna be just out there. You don't need us.' And we'd leave everyone. Everyone, camera operators included, would walk away, and these actors would be alone with cameras silently rolling, and no people in the space at all," she says. "It really made a difference to how they all felt. It gave that sense of realism and intimacy, and the smallness of it was really meaningful for them."

While June's children spend their time by their mother's side, it's her husband who seems to be in denial about her condition — watching football on TV or going to the local pub rather than face the reality of the situation. But after his son yells at him for seemingly not caring, he realizes the depths of his heartbreak when he finds him singing Ray Charles' "Georgia" — one of the couple's favorite songs — at the local bar, but changing the lyrics to "Junie."

"That was the only scene in editing when I just literally could not stop crying," Winslet admits, "because even though I'd seen it, and I was there on the day, and it was incredibly moving on the day, actually really shaping it and sculpting it in the edit, oh my God, it's just extraordinary.... How much that Bernie is hiding and concealing even from himself, existing in a state of denial and regret about his own life and the impact that that has on him, being able to just communicate on even a very basic level, it's completely heartbreaking."**

When it comes to authors, Carley Fortune is a relative newbie in comparison to decades-spanning scribes like Elin Hilderbrand andKristin Hannah. But though the 40-year-old Canadian writer only started publishing books in 2022 — kicking off her authorial career with the beloved beach readEvery Summer After — she's quickly cranked out four novels in the time since: Meet Me at the Lake (2023), This Summer Will Be Different (2024), One Golden Summer (2025) and the upcoming Our Perfect Storm, set for release on May 5, 2026.

In a half decade, Fortune has become one of the most popular names in the contemporary romance genre, with her books making bestseller lists in both the U.S. and her native Canada and even earning the attention of, yes, Hollywood. Several of her stories — emotionally rich explorations of romantic relationships and women's identity, usually set in scenic Canadian vacation spots like Barry's Bay (the lakeside setting for both Every Summer After and One Golden Summer) — have already been optioned for page-to-screen adaptations.

One such impending adaptation is of her first novel, Every Summer After, which Fortune announced in July 2024, sharing in a public statement that she was excited to partner with a major streamer (more on that in a minute!) to take Sam and Percy's love story "even further—beyond the pages of the book, onto the screen, and into the hearts of audiences across the globe."

The Every Year After cast was announced in July 2025, with Sadie Soverall as Percy and Matt Cornett as Sam; Aurora Perrineau, Abigail Cowen, Michael Bradway, Joseph Chiu and Elisha Cuthbert round out the ensemble. "I couldn't be more excited about this fabulous cast!" Fortune told Variety. "This is an enormously talented group of actors, whose auditions made me laugh, swoon, and cry. I know they'll have fans of Every Summer After falling in love with their favorite characters all over again."

And if you're wondering about that title change, Fortune cleared that up in an interview with Swooon: "The thinking behind that was that Every Summer After was, like, too confining as a season for a series, and Every Year After allowed them to open this up to a broader story."

Fortune's 2023 novel Meet Me at the Lake — centered on Fern Brookbanks, a thirtysomething woman left to run her family's lakeside resort after her mother's death, and Will Baxter, the man she had an amazing date in Toronto with a decade earlier who unexpectedly shows up to help — got major attention when it was optioned by Archewell, the production company of none other than Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

The royal duo has plans to turn Fern's story into a Netflix movie, though in the years since the project was formally announced back in August 2023, there has been no director or cast attached, no release date announced and no official word of production beginning any time soon, so you might be waiting a bit for this one.

What About One Golden Summer, Our Perfect Storm and the Rest?

As of press time, there are no book-to-screen adaptations announced for Fortune's other novels This Summer Will Be Different, One Golden Summer (which is connected to Every Summer After, recounting the love story of Sam Florek's brother Charlie) and Our Perfect Storm.

However, all of those titles are fairly recent, so there could be early rumblings around studios that just haven't been officially announced yet. As always, Parade will keep you Carley Fortune fans up to date about any and all adaptations of the author's beloved books.
