When it comes to authors, Carley Fortune is a relative newbie in comparison to decades-spanning scribes like Elin Hilderbrand andKristin Hannah. But though the 40-year-old Canadian writer only started publishing books in 2022 — kicking off her authorial career with the beloved beach readEvery Summer After — she's quickly cranked out four novels in the time since: Meet Me at the Lake (2023), This Summer Will Be Different (2024), One Golden Summer (2025) and the upcoming Our Perfect Storm, set for release on May 5, 2026.
In a half decade, Fortune has become one of the most popular names in the contemporary romance genre, with her books making bestseller lists in both the U.S. and her native Canada and even earning the attention of, yes, Hollywood. Several of her stories — emotionally rich explorations of romantic relationships and women's identity, usually set in scenic Canadian vacation spots like Barry's Bay (the lakeside setting for both Every Summer After and One Golden Summer) — have already been optioned for page-to-screen adaptations.
One such impending adaptation is of her first novel, Every Summer After, which Fortune announced in July 2024, sharing in a public statement that she was excited to partner with a major streamer (more on that in a minute!) to take Sam and Percy's love story "even further—beyond the pages of the book, onto the screen, and into the hearts of audiences across the globe."

Expected to arrive on Amazon Prime Video next year is Every Year After, a series adaptation of Fortune's second-chance romance novel Every Summer After, which sees its leading lady Persephone "Percy" Foster return to the lake town of her childhood to attend a funeral and confront her past choices and present feelings regarding old friend Sam Florek.
The Every Year After cast was announced in July 2025, with Sadie Soverall as Percy and Matt Cornett as Sam; Aurora Perrineau, Abigail Cowen, Michael Bradway, Joseph Chiu and Elisha Cuthbert round out the ensemble. "I couldn't be more excited about this fabulous cast!" Fortune told Variety. "This is an enormously talented group of actors, whose auditions made me laugh, swoon, and cry. I know they'll have fans of Every Summer After falling in love with their favorite characters all over again."
And if you're wondering about that title change, Fortune cleared that up in an interview with Swooon: "The thinking behind that was that Every Summer After was, like, too confining as a season for a series, and Every Year After allowed them to open this up to a broader story."

Fortune's 2023 novel Meet Me at the Lake — centered on Fern Brookbanks, a thirtysomething woman left to run her family's lakeside resort after her mother's death, and Will Baxter, the man she had an amazing date in Toronto with a decade earlier who unexpectedly shows up to help — got major attention when it was optioned by Archewell, the production company of none other than Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
The royal duo has plans to turn Fern's story into a Netflix movie, though in the years since the project was formally announced back in August 2023, there has been no director or cast attached, no release date announced and no official word of production beginning any time soon, so you might be waiting a bit for this one.

What About One Golden Summer, Our Perfect Storm and the Rest?
As of press time, there are no book-to-screen adaptations announced for Fortune's other novels This Summer Will Be Different, One Golden Summer (which is connected to Every Summer After, recounting the love story of Sam Florek's brother Charlie) and Our Perfect Storm.
However, all of those titles are fairly recent, so there could be early rumblings around studios that just haven't been officially announced yet. As always, Parade will keep you Carley Fortune fans up to date about any and all adaptations of the author's beloved books.
