The Pitt leads the 2026 Emmy nominations with 25 total nods, two of which were the result of campaigns from the actors themselves.

The HBO Max medical drama was recognized ahead of the 78th Emmy Awards in a few of the major categories when nominations were announced on Wednesday, July 8, including for Outstanding Drama Series and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series (Noah Wyle). But two of its nominees, guest actors Jeff Kober and Brittany Allen, are now Emmy nominees thanks to their own campaigning.

Both Kober — who played Dr. Robby’s biker friend Duke Ekins — and Allen — who appeared as a woman dying of cancer named Roxie Hamler — were apparently not selected by HBO to be submitted for Emmy contention. Instead, the pair footed the costs and spread the word about their performances, enough so that they got some recognition in return.

According to Variety, while HBO was limited in selecting names for The Pitt’s Emmys submission package, Allen said after submitting that her omission “wasn’t dramatic” and that you ‘don’t take it personally.” Gold Derby was the first to report that Kober also self-submitted for the Emmys.

Per The Wrap, HBO officially entered 14 performers, and Allen and Kober were among the 10 Pitt actors who submitted themselves for the Emmys.

PEOPLE has reached out to HBO for comment on the nominations.

Tal Anderson, Tina Ivlev and Ernest Harden Jr. were also recognized in guest categories when nominations were announced on Wednesday, but were submitted by the network, per the outlet.

“So thankful to have gotten this audition one year ago around this time, and for everything that has followed since,” Allen wrote in an Instagram caption on Wednesday, thanking HBO, the Television Academy and others who helped in her journey.

She later told Variety after the nod, “A week ago I couldn’t get a good agent if my life depended on it, and in the last hour I think that’s already starting to change. These nominations and accolades from the industry have credit. It’s not always easy for somebody to stand behind an artist based purely on their own belief in them.”

Per the outlet, she previously scored a Daytime Emmy for a self-submitted role in All My Children.

As for Kober, he told Variety that he was “happier for her than I was for myself,” referring to his longtime manager. “I just felt like I wanted this to be seen, regardless of the consequences or the outcome. I felt like it was strong work, and I wanted it to be seen,” he said. “One of the great things about being an actor is the constant work of bringing the definition of yourself inside rather than needing to find it outside. When you don’t need approval, you’ve got your own back.”
