Martin Brundle abruptly ended a brief interview with Hugh Grant after an awkward gaffe.
The veteran reporter interviewed Grant, a Formula 1 fan, outside the British Grand Prix.

Hugh Grant found himself caught in an awkward situation outside the British Grand Prix over the weekend.
An avid Formula 1 fan, the Notting Hill and Love Actually star naturally turned up at the buzzy racing event held annually in England on Sunday — even though it was mere hours after he wined and dined with Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce at their Madison Square Garden wedding.
Grant stopped to chat with former racing driver and legendary F1 reporter Martin Brundle as part of his highly anticipated annual “grid walk,” in which he chats with drivers, principals, and their famous fans ahead of the big showdown. Though they got off to a pleasant start, Brundle bungled his way into a corner that could only be escaped by shunting Grant back into the crowd.
Brundle opened his chat with Grant on a pleasant tone, asking the actor “So you’re with Ferrari today?” Grand said he was, explaining that he’s “a big Ferrari fan, and they’re very kind — they’ve invited me, they’ve invited two of my sons.”
Then Brundle seemed to take the odd approach to his few seconds of time with Grant by digging into an odd corner of the actor’s filmography.
“You have another round of The Gentlemensoon?” Grant craned his neck toward Brundle and cupped his ear, and Brundle repeated: “The Gentlemen. Are you doing another series of The Gentlemen?”

After the pieces of Brundle’s snafu visibly arranged themselves in Grant’s mind, he had to explain to Brundle, “Well I did the film of The Gentlemen. I haven’t seen the TV series.”

Without missing a beat, Brundle enthused, “Oh right. It’s really good, you really must. I’ve got 10 seconds left.” He then patted a confused Grant’s back and dispatched him: “Good to see you on the grid.”

Indeed, Grant starred in Guy Ritchie’s action comedy The Gentlemen, which released theatrically in 2019. He played the slippery Fletcher, an investigator for hire who attempts to get one over on star Matthew McConaughey’s Michael “Mickey” Pearson.
The film was broadly successful, grossing $115 million on a $22 million budget. But that didn’t lead to a sequel, rather a TV spinoff on Netflix starring Theo James and Kaya Scodelario.

Though Ritchie created the series as well, he chose not to bring back any of the characters he originated for the 2019 film. The second season is coming to Netflix this fall.
In 2024, James spoke about Ritchie’s relaxed approach to the material on an Emmys FYC panel series moderated by Entertainment Weekly.
“The conceit was very good, but the meat was not fully there,” he recalled. “And I remember speaking to Guy, and he’s like, ‘Yeah, f--- it. Don’t worry about it. Yeah, we’ll sort it out. We’ll sort it out.’ And we’re like, ‘Oh God.’”
