More than a decade after Hamilton transformed modern musical theater, Lin-Manuel Miranda is returning to Broadway with his first original stage musical since the Pulitzer Prize-winning phenomenon.
Producers announced Tuesday, June 23, that Warriors — which Miranda co-wrote alongside playwright-songwriter Eisa Davis — is officially coming to the stage this spring. Performances begin at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre in March 2027 ahead of an opening night in April.
Based on director Walter Hill's 1979 cult classic The Warriors and the 1965 novel of the same name by Sol Yurick, Warriors follows a Coney Island street gang that must make its way across New York City after being falsely accused of assassinating Cyrus, a charismatic gang leader who had attempted to unite the city's rival crews.

Miranda and Davis' musical originated as a concept album that was released back in October 2024. Executive produced by Nas and produced by Mike Elizondo, the recording featured performances by Lauryn Hill, Busta Rhymes, Marc Anthony, Billy Porter, Colman Domingo, Ghostface Killah, RZA, Cam'ron and others.
The LP debuted atop Billboard's Compilation Albums chart and generated 5.5 million global streams during its first week.
Of course, Warriors' source material has long held a unique place in pop culture.
Yurick's novel reimagined the ancient Greek tale Anabasis in the context of New York City's street gangs, earning praise for its gritty portrayal of urban life and becoming a touchstone of crime fiction. More than a decade later, Hill adapted the book into the film, which starred Michael Beck, James Remar, Deborah Van Valkenburgh and David Patrick Kelly.
Though the movie received mixed reviews upon release and became embroiled in controversy after several violent incidents were reported at theaters showing the film, it gradually developed a devoted following and is now regarded as a cult classic whose influence can be felt across film, television, music and video games.

Now, Yurick's story and Miranda and Davis' album will come to life in a whole new way.
"With Warriors, we take a fateful journey through New York City full of heart and grit as our characters fight to survive," Miranda and Davis said in a joint statement. "Musicalizing such a vibrant world for the concept album has been a thrill, and now we're coming out to play on Broadway at the Lunt-Fontanne. We can't wait."
The production will be directed by Jenny Koons, with six-time Tony winner Andy Blankenbuehler serving as co-director and choreographer.
Producers include Miranda, his father Luis, Hamilton's director Thomas Kail and Miranda's longtime producing partner Jeffrey Seller. Paramount Products & Experiences has licensed the title for the stage.

Warriors marks a significant Broadway milestone for Miranda, whose Hamilton became a cultural phenomenon after premiering Off-Broadway in 2015 before transferring to Broadway later that year. The musical went on to win 11 Tony Awards, the Pulitzer Prize for Drama and a Grammy Award, while helping reshape the landscape of contemporary musical theater through its blend of hip-hop, R&B and traditional Broadway storytelling.
While Miranda has remained a major force in pop culture since Hamilton — contributing additional lyrics to New York, New York, producing stage projects and expanding into film and television through works including Encanto, Vivo and tick, tick... BOOM! and the upcoming Octet — Warriors marks a return to the kind of original stage storytelling that made him one of the industry's most celebrated creative voices.
As for Davis, the Broadway production is another major chapter in a multifaceted career that has spanned theater, television, film and music. The Pulitzer Prize finalist for her play Bulrusher recently completed a run of her play-with-music ||: GIRLS :||: CHANCE :||: MUSIC :|| and has written for series including She's Gotta Have It and Justified: City Primeval. She is also developing a musical adaptation of Devil in a Blue Dress.
Casting and additional creative team members for Warriors will be announced at a later date. Tickets are expected to go on sale in October 2026.
