The series returns to Apple TV in August.
When it comes to Jason Sudeikis and Hannah Waddingham's relationship, it's not all biscuits and tea.
On screen, the Ted Lasso stars are one of the best duos on television, but Waddingham admits that it can be a struggle behind the scenes due to the constant rewrites from Sudeikis, who serves as Lasso's writer, producer, co-creator, and lead actor.
“There’s always going to be a bit of give and take within a scene, because of the nature of how Sudeikis works,” Waddingham told Varietyon Saturday. “He hears it in the room, and then we tweak. With that boy, you’ve got to roll with the punches. He and I have an ongoing love-hate relationship that he changes it last minute.”

Ted Lasso was a game-changing opportunity for Waddingham. Derived from a character that Sudeikis created as part of NBC's Premier League coverage, the sports dramedy became a pop culture phenomenon upon its release on Apple TV in 2020. Waddingham won an Emmy in season 1 for her portrayal of Rebecca Welton, the dedicated owner of the AFC Richmond soccer club.
The series is chock full of sweet relationships, but the charming dynamic between Rebecca and Richmond's manager Ted (Sudeikis) is often at the center. And while most shows would turn that sort of pairing into something romanic, Waddingham is thankful for its continued platonic nature.

“I love that we buck against the norm,” she said. “They are undoubtedly soulmates, but that can mean a myriad of things.”
Ted Lasso seemed to sign off for good in 2023 with a disappointing third season, but Sudeikis decided to get the band back together for season 4, which will find Ted now coaching Richmond's women's team.

"She's very much the figurehead of the whole organization," Waddingham recently told EW of Rebecca. "She's unequivocally the leader. She's become a real kind of lioness about both of her teams and that's what's been so lovely to play."
New episodes of Ted Lasso return to Apple TV on Aug. 5.
