Tracy Morgan opens up to PEOPLE about what brings him the most joy during this era of his life
"I can't wait to get back to work," he says of his lead role on The Fall & Rise of Reggie Dinkins
He plays a former football player trying to improve his image in the new sports sitcom
As Tracy Morgan is growing older, he has a new outlook on the things that make him happiest.
"Well, for me, my family, the mother of my child, my child, my fiancé, all of that, as people," he says when asked what brings him joy in life. The actor, 57 opens up to PEOPLE while at the premiere of his new series, The Fall & Rise of Reggie Dinkins, in New York City on Tuesday, March 3.
He stars as the titular Reggie Dinkins, a former football star who wants to improve his image after a gambling scandal to win back his fans and family. As part of this plan, Morgan's character gets help from filmmaker Arthur Tobin (Daniel Radcliffe) to work on a documentary.
After Morgan praised his family at the show's premiere, his costar, Erika Alexander, chimes in, asking. "Did you just answer that as Reggie Dinkins or you, Trey?"
"Well, both, because it does sound like his life a lot," the 30 Rock alum replies.
Alexander, 56, plays Reggie's ex-wife and agent, Monica, in the sports sitcom. She previously worked with Morgan on the 2001 film 30 Years to Life.
"This is our second time together," she tells PEOPLE. "It's a big deal. You know, Tracy's the reason for the season."

"I can't wait to get back to work," Morgan adds. "We're gonna hit the ground running."
The rest of the The Fall & Rise of Reggie Dinkins cast includes Precious Way, Jalyn Hall, Bobby Moynihan and Megan Thee Stallion, who plays Denise, a mail carrier interested in Arthur. It was created by Robert Carlock and Sam Means, with Morgan and his former 30 Rock costar Tina Fey serving on the team as executive producers.

"The big laughs are from Tracy Morgan opening his mouth, and not to mention Bobby Moynihan, Dan Radcliffe and Erica Alexander," Carlock, 53, tells PEOPLE.
He adds, "You know, this journey that this guy is on with his family, with this kind of new person in his life. Dan plays this filmmaker making a documentary about this former football player, and you know the laughs come from the heart of that journey."

Means also teases that viewers can expect "a lot of hijinks to come," including a "Love Island locked room murder mystery episode."
New episodes of The Fall & Rise of Reggie Dinkins air Mondays at 8:30 p.m. ET on NBC.
