Before the bright lights and big stages of Nashville, country star HARDY was just fine with digging graves.

During a recent episode of State Farm's Neighborhood Beats, the 'Six Feet Under' singer told host Jimmy Fallon that he loved his job as a gravedigger in his hometown of Philadelphia, Miss.

"It was really fun," said HARDY, 35. "Other than this job, it was the most fun i've ever had as a worker."

"I just had a great boss. Our departments were so small because our town was so small. It was the cemetery department/animal control. So in the summer, when it would get really hot and all of the grass would die, we'd just chase stray dogs around. But yeah, I was a gravedigger," he continued.

Born Michael Wilson Hardy, the singer-songwriter got his start in Nashville co-writing with Florida Georgia Line. His 2020 breakout hit 'One Beer' reached No. 1 on the US Country Airplay chart and is certified 4x platinum by the RIAA. He's released several hits since then, including 2023's 'Truck Bed." His fourth album Country! Country! was released in September of last year.

In his sit-down with Fallon, the singer also praised his hometown of Philadelphia, Miss. "It's a great small town. People that are from there are very prideful," said HARDY. "I call myself the hillbilly from the real Philly."

The 'Give Heaven Some Hell' singer and wife Caleigh have been married since 2021. In March of last year, they welcomed daughter Rosie. HARDY told PEOPLE in December that he believes the key to their successful relationship is "communication."

"She is so passionate about so many things, and she's just a very cerebrally emotional... She feels so much, and it makes for such a great partner and a foundation for somebody that just has so much passion," said HARDY about his wife. "I mean, it took me a long time to learn that, to not hold things in, but just talking it out and hashing it out, working it out, those are all forms of communication. To me, that just makes for the best relationship."
