- Josh Brolin says he once considered Donald Trump a pal and that he was "a different guy" before he became president.

- The *Dune* actor befriended Trump around the time they shot *Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps*, from which the *Apprentice* star was cut.

- "There is no greater genius than him in marketing," Brolin said.

Josh Brolin is reflecting on his relationship with Donald Trump before the business mogul moved to the White House.

The *No Country for Old Men* star befriended the U.S. president around the time they filmed Oliver Stone's 2010 *Wall Street* sequel, *Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, *from which Trump was ultimately cut.

"I'm not scared of Trump, because even though he says he's staying forever, it's just not going to happen," Brolin said of the president alluding to a third term in his new interview with *The Independent*. "And if it does, then I'll deal with that moment. But having been a friend of Trump before he was president, I know a different guy."

The *Hail, Caesar* star added that he was fascinated by Trump's development of a luxury hotel "in the middle of a cesspool city" in the late '70s.

"That's interesting to me," he said. "Now it's power unmitigated — it's unregulated."

Brolin also thinks he understands why the former *Apprentice* star has appealed to voters across the country. "There is no greater genius than him in marketing," he said. "He takes the weakness of the general population and fills it."

He continued, "That's why I think a lot of people feel that they have a mascot in him. I think it's much less about Trump than it is about the general population and their need for validation."

Representatives for the White House did not immediately respond to **'s request for comment.

Though he once considered Trump a pal, Brolin rejected his 2020 presidential bid in October 2020 in an impassioned Instagram post.

"I refuse to believe that Donald Trump is our core version of American masculinity," the *Dune* star wrote at the time. "The America that was great was never based on creating hate and conspiracy in order to win. There have been a few, but none has lasted. Donald Trump has lied over 50,000 documented times, but we still are willing to let it go because he speaks to an American demographic that no longer felt masculine."

Last year, Brolin shared a bizarre memory of an interaction he had with the future president at his New York apartment. "I said, 'What's upstairs?' He said, 'Our bedroom,'" he remembered on *In Depth With Graham Bensinger. *"And I said, 'Can I see upstairs?' He said, 'Yeah.' And then nobody moved. And I said, 'Cool. So should we go up?' And he said, 'Yeah.' And then he still didn't move. And I'm thinking, 'What the f--- is happening?'"

Brolin is in the midst of a particularly busy chapter of his career. He can be seen in Edgar Wright's *The Running Man* and Rian Johnson's *Wake Up Dead Man*, both of which are playing now in theaters. He also appeared in Zach Cregger's *Weapons*, which is streaming on HBO Max, this year, and lent his voice to Ken Burns' *The American Revolution* docuseries on PBS.

This year's Le Bal des Débutantes showcased a slew of glamorous young faces donning haute couture gowns to make their debut, including Hollywood and fashion royalty.

Known simply as Le Bal, the exclusive, invite-only debutante ball can only be described as the Met Gala but for teenagers, scions, heiresses and royals, according to Vogue magazine, which had a firsthand inside look at the big night. The 2025 edition of the debutante ball was held at the Shangri-La Paris hotel, a luxury 5-star hotel near the city's Eiffel Tower, on Saturday, Nov. 29.

This year, the granddaughter of designer Carolina Herrera, Carolina Lansing, and Bronwyn Golden Vance, daughter of actors Angela Bassett and Courtney B. Vance, made their debut at Le Bal. It's not out of the ordinary either for celebrity offspring to have a presence at the annual event. In years past, Lily Collins, Apple Martin, Ava Philippe, Lori Harvey, Scout Willims and Margaret Qualley have all stepped out for the occasion.

Laura Dern shared a tribute to her late mom, Diane Ladd, on what would have been the actress' 90th birthday

Dern posted the tribute on Instagram on Saturday, Nov. 29, along with a black-and-white photo of Ladd

Ladd, an Oscar-nominated actress, died on Nov. 3 at the age of 89

Laura Dern shared a tribute to her late mother, actress Diane Ladd, on what would have been her 90th birthday.

Dern shared the message on Instagram on Saturday, Nov. 29, along with a vintage black-and-white photo portrait of Ladd.

"Happy birthday to my hero, the most extraordinary person I have ever known, on what would be her 90th today," Dern, 58, began her post.

She added, "As an artist and human being, you were always loving, always dreaming, always creating, and ever in service for all. I love you, Mom."

Ladd died on Nov. 23 from hypoxic respiratory failure at the age of 89. Dern announced her mom's death in a statement obtained by PEOPLE at the time.

"My amazing hero and my profound gift of a mother, Diane Ladd, passed with me beside her this morning, at her home in Ojai, Calif.," Dern said in the statement.

"She was the greatest daughter, mother, grandmother, actress, artist and empathetic spirit that only dreams could have seemingly created," she added. "We were blessed to have her. She is flying with her angels now."

In a joint 2023 interview with PEOPLE, the pair shared that they had grown extremely close in recent years — in no small part because of a health scare in which doctors told Ladd she might only have six months to live back in 2019.

"We both longed to talk about the things that we've left unsaid in our life together," Dern said while recalling her mother's diagnoses. "The places we didn't go because we didn't want to hurt each other by bringing up heartbreak or trauma."

Ladd added, "I thought I was dying, so Laura and I just told each other everything. Just fixing ourselves and our relationship was a darn good beginning."

During the interview, Ladd also noted that she viewed getting older as a "gift."

"I don't believe in age. How many times around the sun you've been does not necessarily tell you how your bones feel or how much wisdom you've got. Aging gives you a gift if you're ready for it, where the blinders that you've worn all through life start to come off and for the first time, you begin to see there's a big picture," she said.

Ladd's numerous movie and TV credits include Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore (and the TV sitcom Alice, based on the 1974 film), Wild at Heart and Rambling Rose. She was nominated for three Oscars and three Emmys.

- George Clooney was "annoyed" that Brad Pitt beat him out for a star-making role in *Thelma & Louise*.

- The *Michael Clayton* actor says his future *Ocean's Eleven* costar still "gives me s---" about their early rivalry.

- Clooney "didn't watch *Thelma & Louise *for years," but eventually relented and realized that Pitt was the right man for the role.

Brad Pitt beat George Clooney out for a role that helped launch his career — and neither actor will forget it anytime soon.

During an interview with U.K. outlet *The Times *alongside his *Jay Kelly *costar Adam Sandler, Clooney discussed losing a star-making role to Pitt.

"I got to the final test for a role in *Thelma & Louise*," he said. "And, motherf---er, Brad got it."

The role, of course, was J.D., the attractive young drifter who briefly romances Geena Davis' Thelma as she distances herself from her husband Darryl (Christopher McDonald). The role marked a turning point in Pitt's career, as he began landing key roles in films from massive Hollywood filmmakers like Robert Redford and Tony Scott shortly after its release.

Clooney, however, remained relegated to supporting roles on TV shows like the *Look Who's Talking* spinoff *Baby Talk* and the CBS drama *Bodies of Evidence* for most of the early '90s — and he maintained resentment toward Pitt for beating him out for the *Thelma* role.

"I didn't watch *Thelma & Louise* for years," the actor admitted, "because I was annoyed. The part launched his career in film. He was doing sitcoms and crap before, so when it was the thing that could've launched me? F---!!"

The *Michael Clayton* star said that Pitt still teases him about the *Thelma & Louise* rivalry.

"Oh yeah, he gives me s---," Clooney said before admitting that the *F1* star was the right person for the role. "Of course, when I saw it, I was, like, well, it *had* to be that guy."

Sandler remembered witnessing Pitt's shirtless scene in the movie with an excited crowd.

"I saw that at the cinema and when Brad took his shirt off people went nuts," the *Happy Gilmore* actor recalled. "But it should have been you, Clooney."

Davis previously remembered Clooney complaining about losing the part to Pitt in a 2016 interview with *Good Morning America*.

"I was on a plane next to George Clooney by happenstance. We're chatting, and he says, 'You know, I hate that Brad Pitt,'" the *League of Their Own* actress recalled. "And I said, 'No, you don't, he's your friend.' And he said, 'No, I hate him because he got that part in *Thelma & Louise*.' And I said, 'Oh, were you interested in that part?' He said, 'Oh, couldn't you tell when I read with you?' And I said, 'Oh.'"

Clooney and Pitt later became frequent collaborators, appearing in a multitude of projects together like 2001's *Ocean's Eleven* and its sequels *Ocean's Twelve* and *Ocean's Thirteen*. Clooney also directed Pitt in a small role in his directorial debut *Confessions of a Dangerous Mind. *In addition, the two appeared together in the Coen brothers' *Burn After Reading* and Jon Watts' caper *Wolfs*.

Clooney recently said that he'll soon star in *Ocean's Fourteen*. Though there's no official word on which cast members will join him (besides Andy Garcia), the *Out of Sight* actor suggested that he hopes Pitt, Matt Damon, Julia Roberts, and Don Cheadle will all come aboard.

"They're all still really dear friends, so the chance to work together would be fun," Clooney told E! News in October.

Da'Vine Joy Randolph says she and Zoë Kravitz still want to resurrect High Fidelity

Even after five years and an Oscar win, Da'Vine Joy Randolph isn't ready to say goodbye to *High Fidelity*.

The Academy Award-winner, who is currently making the rounds for her role in the sci-fi rom-com *Eternity*, recently addressed the possibility of reviving the sitcom during an interview with *Rolling Stone*. Asked if she'd be open to returning to the show after all these years, Randolph didn't hesitate.

"Absolutely," she replied. "We all feel the same way. Zoë [Kravitz] and I talk about it all the time, like, 'How can we figure this out? Give it back to the people,' but really give it back to us, because we just really love it."

The 2020 series, which offered a modernized, gender-swapped take on the John Cusack romantic comedy classic, lasted only a single season on Hulu before its abrupt cancellation. At the time, Randolph's career was just beginning to pop on the heels of *Dolemite Is My Name* and *The United States vs. Billie Holiday*. Within three years, she would snag an Academy Award for *The Holdovers*.

Though she already has her next few projects lined up, Randolph is open to the idea of once again playing snarky music seller Cherise. But that doesn't mean she has no reservations at all.

"I's a really tricky one, because you're trying to recapture lightning in a bottle," Randolph said of a potential second season. "Sometimes you have to just let things be what it is organically and trust in the process to find the next thing."

*High Fidelity*, based on the 2000 film and Nick Hornby's 1995 novel, centers on Robyn "Rob" Brooks (Kravitz), a young music-obsessed record store owner in Brooklyn, as she reflects on the ups and downs of her previous failed relationships. Fans and critics alike praised the dramedy upon its debut, and since Hulu does not release traditional viewership figures, its cancellation came as a shock. It certainly didn't help that the finale ended on a cliffhanger, with Rob making a major love-life decision.

In the five years since, Kravitz has often discussed her disappointment over the abrupt cancellation and said several times that she would love the opportunity to keep the series going.

Da'Vine Joy Randolph had 'near-death experience' over dim sum

Da'Vine Joy Randolph for a story about her recounting an experience witnessing a mall smash and grab while eating at a dim sum restaurant.

"That's where I really learned about producing and editing and writing, and man, I'm sad," Kravitz told *Elle* earlier this year. "I keep on going back to Hulu and trying to get them to re-up it, but they won't. They're not interested."

Elsewhere in her conversation with *Rolling Stone*, Randolph recalled feeling the pressure of portraying a character previously embodied by Jack Black.

"I chose not to watch the movie because I am such an avid fan of Jack Black, and I did not want in any way for my performance to be tainted," she shared. "I wanted it to authentically be me. But I definitely felt the pressure of, 'Oh gosh, people are going to expect this thing because we're doing a remake.'"

She added, "[The TV show] being so different, I think, helped *High Fidelity* be successful. But that's rare. I often see [sequels] or remakes that happen 20 years later and think, 'Do we need it?'"**
