Hold onto your ponchos, amusement park fans, because Six Flags just announced plans to build the tallest log flume drop in the world.
On Monday, June 8, officials at Carowinds amusement park in Charlotte, N.C., unveiled Rip Roarin' Falls, an all-new, record-breaking log flume ride coming to the park in 2027. The new attraction is set to break three world records and features the first-ever mega drop on a log flume.

Set within a fictional long-abandoned lumber mill, Rip Roarin' Falls will place eight riders in each flume before they're swept into a rushing river. The boats will then climb the first hill before rotating backward and plummeting down the world's tallest reverse drop on a water ride or flume.
Standing at 42 feet, the first drop will also hold the record for the world's tallest reverse camelback drop on a water ride or flume, where boats travel backward down a slope and immediately climbs back up an airtime hill before leveling off.

Guests will then ascend the towering structure before the tallest water ride drop in the world — a massive 100-foot plunge. The drop will send riders at speeds up to 50 mph. It all ends with a huge splashdown, perfect for the Carolinas' blazing sun. The entire attraction will last 6 minutes and 30 seconds with 2,240 feet of track.
The ride's theme centers on two fictional brothers — Frederich and Johann Holz — who worked the Carolina logwoods in the 18th century. Their efforts to turn a fortune led to the creation of The Holz Brothers Logging Company. However, not long after the construction of the multi-level buzzsaw, the mill was mysteriously abandoned.

"Today, the camp is deserted, but some still swear that the flume is operated by somebody — are you daring enough to know who?" Carowinds, which is owned and operated by Six Flags, asks on its website.
"This level of investment and innovation is a true testament of our team's commitment to bringing legendary attractions and world-class experiences to the Carolinas," Bridgette Bywater, Carowinds president, said in a press release. "As a new signature ride, it combines record-setting thrills and cutting-edge ride innovation—all with a 35-inch height requirement that makes it accessible for families."
Construction on the attraction is already underway. It will be located on the former site of Rip Roarin' Rapids, which closed in 2019. While an exact opening date has yet to be announced, the park says it will welcome riders in 2027.

This won't be the 400-acre amusement park's only record-breaking attraction. Carowinds is already home to Fury 325, the world's tallest and fastest giga (300+-feet-tall) coaster. The attraction joined the park's lineup in 2015. In 2019, the park opened Copperhead Strike, the first double-launch roller coaster in the Carolinas.
